Bicyclist struck by tractor-trailer

Los Angeles- On August 4, 2014, at approximately 1:10 p.m. a fatal Bicycle vs. Tractor-Trailer traffic collision occurred on Alameda Street just south of 20th Street in Newton Area.

 

The collision occurred when the bicyclist was riding southbound along the west curb of Alameda Street and was struck by the right side of a flatbed tractor trailer.  The contact caused the bicyclist to fall to the pavement and was subsequently run over by the rear wheels of the trailer. 

 

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from LAFD.  The driver remained at scene.  The identity of the bicyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin.  Drugs or alcohol were not involved.

 

Several vehicles reportedly stopped but did not remain to provide any accounts of the collision.
