(Steuben County, IN)-The Indiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash this morning on I-69 in Steuben County that hospitalized a 25 year old man from Angola.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Poe indicated that at approximately 6:00 a.m., a 2009 Jeep Liberty driven by Nathan Lee West, 25 from Angola was traveling northbound on I-69 at the 341 mile marker. The Jeep traveled off of the east side of the roadway and down into a culvert where it struck a sign before hitting a concrete wall.
West, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, suffered a broken right leg as well a head injury, and is believed to have fallen asleep behind the wheel. Alcohol is also believed to have been a factor. He was transported via Samaritan to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. His condition is not known at this time. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
Assisting at the scene were the Steuben County Sheriff Department, the Ashley Police Department, Steuben County EMS, Samaritan and First Call Towing.
