As of August 1st, 2014, Sheriff Chris Francis and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has initiated a new Handgun Purchase Permit procedure through a web-based program in effort to assist the residents of Rutherford County in obtaining a Permit to buy a handgun.
This is a new web-based program which allows a resident to apply on-line for a Handgun Purchase Permit and pay for the permit(s) through this web-based program.
The resident that applies through the on-line program can receive an e-mail, text and/or voice messages with regard to their application status.
The applicant will be notified by one or more of these methods when their permit has been approved for them to pick up at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
The applicant will also have the ability to go back on-line at any time and check the real-time status of their permit.
For those who may not have access to a computer, the application process can still be completed at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office by filling out a paper application.
We are excited to be able to offer this new program to the citizens of Rutherford County.
This new procedure and program should make the application process much more convenient and easier.
