Detective charges pair with breaking into house and stealing $7,000 worth of items; one charged later with possession of drugs and gun

Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 32-year-old Jimmy Eugene Lowery, of U.S. 70 West in Old Fort, and 54-year-old Ruby Ann McGinnis, of Chevy Lane in Marion, each with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and felony larceny of a firearm.
Deputy Jason Cook also charged McGinnis with misdemeanor possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and felony possession of a firearm by felon.
On June 29, Ada Hester, of Jake’s Branch Road in Marion, reported that someone broke into her house and stole a gun and jewelry worth more than $7,000.
Alkire said an investigation led to Lowery and McGinnis, who are not acquainted with the victim.
None of the property has been recovered. Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of the stolen gun or jewelry is asked to call the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office at 652-2237.
At 10:30 p.m. at Sunday, July 13, Deputy Jason Cook spotted a vehicle on U.S. 70 in Old Fort that didn’t have working tag lights.
Cook stopped the Ford truck, which was registered to McGinnis. McGinnis was the passenger in the automobile.
The deputy learned that McGinnis had the outstanding breaking and entering and larceny warrants against her, so Cook took her into custody.
A search of her person allegedly revealed a small handgun and three morphine pills.
