OPD Recovers Illegal Firearms; Witness Information Leads to Robbery Arrest
On Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 11:40 PM, an Oakland Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle violation and attempted to make a traffic enforcement stop. In the 3100 block of 22nd Avenue, the driver fled the vehicle and ran into nearby yards. Officers responding to the scene quickly set a perimeter and conducted a yard search, locating and arresting the suspect. Officers recovered an illegally possessed, loaded handgun from inside the vehicle and a second illegally possessed handgun from the suspect. One of the guns was reported stolen.
On Saturday, July 27, 2014 at 10:00 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to a Dispatch call to investigate a reported strong arm robbery at Brookdale and Kingsland avenues. The victim reported that a suspect had taken her purse. Officers began searching the area and with the assistance of witnesses, they were able to locate the suspect, a juvenile, and arrested him in the 5600 block of Bancroft Avenue. OPD thanks those witnesses who are willing to get involved and assist the police when they see a crime occur in our streets. It takes a community working together to make Oakland safer.
