Lake County-A motorcyclist was killed this evening when he ran into the rear of a semi.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Davonne Barlow revealed that at approximately 7:45 p.m., this Wednesday, July 30, 2014, evening a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was on I-80 east bound to I-65 south bound ramp when the motorcyclist drove into the rear of a semi pulling a tanker.
Witnesses stated that the motorcyclist was driving at a high rate of speed when he went around the first curve in the right lane on the ramp and drove into the rear of the tanker. The semi, a 2009 Kenworth, hauling for Langer Transport out of Jersey City, New Jersey, was loaded with 18,000 pounds of liquid corrosives. The driver of the semi, David White, 59 of Eaton, Ohio, was not injured. No load was lost from the crash.
The motorcyclist, identified as Nicholas Stucker, 28 of Hobart, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner of massive blunt force trauma. Family has been notified.
The right lane was closed for approximately three hours for reconstruction of the crash, removal of the deceased and vehicles and clean up of the road.
