One Driver Airlifted after Intersection Crash

Sullivan County—This afternoon at 1:35, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of US 41 at State Road 58 (Carlisle).

Preliminary investigation revealed a red 1995 Ford dump truck, driven by 61-year-old Robert G. King of Terre Haute, IN., was northbound on US 41 approaching SR 58. Eastbound on SR 58 was a 2004 Pontiac car driven by 83-year-old, Colleen Kennedy of Carlisle, IN. The Kennedy vehicle then pulled into the path of the King vehicle.

IU Health air ambulance airlifted Kennedy from Sullivan County Community Hospital to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for suspected head injuries and fractures. Her injuries are believed to be serious, as she was not wearing a seatbelt. Kennedy was cited for failure to yield right of way.

King was wearing a seatbelt and not injured, but found to be wanted on warrant for a probation violation by Vigo County authorities. King was transported to the Vigo County Jail.

The crash was investigated by ISP Senior Trooper Byron Goodman of the ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. Assisting were Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, Carlisle Town Marshal, Haddon Township Fire/Rescue, and IU Health air ambulance.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
