Search for escaped inmates now spans NC and other states; they are considered armed and dangerous
Officers across North Carolina and surrounding states are searching for two inmates that escaped custody around 4 p.m. Tuesday from Avery County deputies.
Authorities are looking for 20-year-old Calvin Lee Metcalf, of Bakersville, and 25-year-old Phillip Nicholas Metcalf, of Spruce Pine.
They were being held in McDowell County on Mitchell County break-in charges. They were taken by Avery County deputies Tuesday to Avery as part of an investigation. They reportedly assaulted an Avery officer and managed to escape.
They are driving a 2011 gray four-door Dodge truck with a camper cover, tinted windows and black running boards. The license plate number is AEW-7350.
They are considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information regarding the suspects is asked to call 911 immediately.
