Auto Theft Suspect Arrested Following Hit and Run Collision

On July 27, 2014 at approximately 2:28 p.m., Los Banos Police Officers responded to a reported traffic collision near the intersection of Stonewood Drive and Vineyard Drive.

A Silver 2009 Toyota Corolla was reportedly traveling northbound on Stonewood Drive. Early reports indicate the Corolla’s driver ran the posted stop sign at the intersection of Stonewood Drive and Vineyard Drive, colliding with a Silver Mitsubishi Galant traveling Eastbound on Vineyard Drive.

The Toyota driver and a passenger fled the scene following the collision, leaving an injured female passenger behind. The male passenger, 18-year-old Mahad Abdirashid Hussein of San Jose was taken into custody and the driver remains outstanding.

The driver was last seen running west on Chenin Blanc Drive and was described as a Hispanic male, in his late teens with a medium build and tattoos on both arms. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, gray hat and blue jeans.

Officers learned the 2009 Corolla was reported stolen out of San Jose, California. Coincidentally, Hussein had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for grand theft auto out of San Jose.

The injured female passenger was identified as Priscilla Saiz, 27, of Los Banos. Saiz was not immediately arrested; however, she may face criminal charges associated with the vehicle theft. Hussein was booked into the Los Banos Police Department Jail, charged with vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and felony auto theft arrest warrant. Hussein remains in custody at the John Latorraca
Correctional Facility in lieu of $60,000 bail.

“We are thankful that no one in the victim’s vehicle was injured as a result of the suspect’s
careless actions.”
- Jason Hedden, Police Commander
