Police Investigate Tuesday Morning Shooting on S. Lindsey Street;
Man Stopped for Questioning Faces Drug Charge
Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to shots fired. Responding officers stopped a car on Lexington at North Royal Street and found a 25-year-old Henderson man in the car with a gunshot wound to the leg. The man was being transported to the hospital for the gunshot wound when police stopped the car. Officers determined that the man had just been shot while outside on S. Lindsey Street.
While officers searched the area, they stopped a man matching the description of the shooter. The man was held for questioning. After further investigation, there was not sufficient evidence to charge the man in the shooting, but police found a small amount of marijuana in his pocket.
The man, identified as Poncho Watkins, was charged with simple possession of marijuana.
Watkins, 24, of Madison County, remains in custody at the Madison County Jail and will be arraigned via video link at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Jackson City Court.
The gunshot victim was treated and released for the gunshot wound at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital
