Two Semi Crash Closes Interstate

Jackson County: A two semi crash yesterday evening closed southbound Interstate 65 in Jackson County for five hours. According to Trooper Matt Holley, at approximately 6:30 p.m. yesterday a 2013 Freightliner semi tractor pulling a box trailer driven by 48 year old William H. Petrie of Tupelo, MS was southbound on S.R. 11 exiting to southbound I-65 (approximately 55.3 mile marker). As the semi was going through the curve on the ramp to enter southbound I-65 it was traveling too fast and the tractor and trailer overturned onto the driver’s side blocking both southbound lanes of the interstate. A 2015 Freightliner semi tractor driven by Edmond R. Mansfield of Morrisonville, IL was traveling southbound on I-65 and swerved to avoid crashing into the overturned semi. As it drove into the median it struck the trailer of the overturned semi. Petrie suffered a non-life threatening head injury and was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour by Jackson County EMS. He was also cited for Speed Too Fast to Avoid a Collision. Mansfield was not injured. I-65 was re-opened at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tpr. Holley was assisted at the scene by other troopers and INDOT.
