Police Arrest Teen in Connection with Sunday's Double Shooting in Parkway East Apartments

Jackson police have arrested a 17-year-old Jackson male in connection with Sunday's double shooting in Parkway East Apartments that left a teen dead and another man critically injured.

Investigators developed the case and determined that the 17-year-old male shot and killed Shomari Peterson Jr., 17, and a 21-year-old man. Investigators obtained a delinquent juvenile petition charging the 17-year-old male with first-degree murder of Peterson and attempted first-degree murder of the man.

The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, which is comprised of Jackson police investigators and deputy marshals, developed a location on the teen and took him into custody at 8:30 p.m. tonight in Jackson.

The teen will be held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing in Madison County Juvenile Court.

The District Attorney has indicated that his office will file a motion to have the teen tried as an adult.

At approximately 5:07 p.m. Sunday, police were called about two people shot outside Parkway East Apartments at 33 Carver Avenue. Peterson and a 21-year-old man, both of Jackson, were struck. Peterson died from his injuries.

The 21-year-old man remains at Jackson General Hospital in stable condition. Police are not identifying the 21-year-old man for safety concerns.

Investigators continue to seek a second person of interest in connection with the shootings. Thorough search measures are underway to find this person.
