IMPD off-duty officer arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence

INDIANAPOLIS – Earlier this morning the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Special Investigations Unit arrested Officer Kevin Brown for suspicion of driving under the influence. The arrest stems from an off-duty allegation that Officer Brown was driving his marked police vehicle while under the influence in Morgan County. Officer Brown was arrested on a preliminarily charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, and transported to the Morgan County Jail. No booking photo is available through IMPD or the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are disappointed by the choices Officer Brown has made,” said Assistant Chief Ron Hicks “We hold our officers to high standards and consider Officer Brown’s actions inconsistent with the mission and values of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the great work that our men and women do on a daily basis.”

Investigators from the Internal Affairs Branch are conducting an internal investigation with a report to be delivered to Chief of Police Rick Hite in the coming days. In accordance with departmental policy, Officer Brown, a 16-year veteran of IMPD, has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the internal investigation. No further information is available at this time.
