Hammond, Lake County-A crash, during rush hour this morning, sent two passengers in a SUV to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Lionel Douglas revealed that at approximately 7:16 a.m., this Monday, July 28, 2014, morning, a 2004 Honda CRV, driven by David J. Tomlinson, 34 of Plymouth, Michigan, was east bound on I-80/94 just east of Indianapolis Boulevard in the right middle lane when a car next to him in the right lane started to come over. This caused Tomlinson to swerve to the left to avoid the car. Tomlinson lost control, went into the left middle lane and hit a 2008 Volvo semi pulling a box trailer owned by Rediehs Freightline out of Portage, Indiana. The Honda CRV rolled after hitting the semi and came to rest in the left lane.
Asencion Medina, 58 of Chicago, Illinois, the driver of the semi, was not injured. Tomlinson was treated at the scene for a hand injury. Tomlinson’s front seat passenger Brett Barath, 28 of Livonia, Michigan was taken to Munster Community Hospital with a head injury. Trevor Snyder, 33 of Canton, Michigan, back seat passenger, was also taken to Munster Community with a serious arm injury.
The left two lanes were closed for removal of the injured, up-righting and towing of the Honda and clean-up of the roadway.
