Man Drowns in Russian River
On July 26, 2014 at approximately 4:01 p.m., deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Guerneville Substation, and Fire and EMS personnel from the California Department of Forestry, California State Parks, Bodega Bay and Monte Rio Fire Protection Districts responded to a report of a male swimmer in distress on the Russia River west of the Casini Ranch Campgrounds at 22855 Moscow Road Duncan Mills.
Witnesses called 911 after observing a Kayak capsize on the Russian River and one of two persons on board appeared to be in distress and had problems staying afloat in the water before disappearing.
It was estimated the male was under water for approximately 7 to 10 minutes before being located and rescued.
EMS personnel on scene performed CPR on the male but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office responded to this incident and is currently conducting a follow-up investigation.
