Gas Line Rupture - Update

This is the City of Newport Beach with an important message for customers of SoCalGas.

SoCalGas has completed permanent repairs to the damaged natural gas line that caused service outage to a large portion of the Balboa Peninsula. Beginning Saturday morning, crews will start the methodical individual service restorations for all the affected customers and businesses.

Natural gas service restorations require a step-by-step process that includes shutting off each individual meter before gas can be re-introduced into the pipeline. This has been done and SoCalGas will re-introduce gas into the system. Crews will now begin turning each meter back on; and then relighting pilot lights and performing a safety check of all natural gas appliances or equipment at each residence and business. This process is done at each and every home and business for the safety of customers, community and employees.  SoCalGas expects the restoration process to go through this weekend and appreciates your patience as they work diligently to safely restore natural gas service to the community.

SoCalGas must have access to customers’ homes and businesses to complete this process.  SoCalGas will make multiple attempts and if customers are not at home when SoCalGas comes by, they will leave a door hanger with a contact number so customers can call them to complete the service restoration. SoCalGas has set up an information booth at 20th Street and Oceanfront and encourages customers to visit at SoCalGas.com for updates.
