#LASD Search and Rescue Team Saves Minors from Cliff, Malibu

At approximately 9:40 a.m. this morning, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) Team received a rescue call for two injured hikers above Tapia Park in Malibu. Malibu SAR, Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoF), and California State Parks responded and determined that the two minors from Santa Maria and Ventura would need to be airlifted off the cliff.

LASD Air Rescue 5 SAR helicopter responded and performed a winch rescue, extracting the first minor. The minor was then transported to UCLA Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries.

LACoF Copter 16 also arrived and winched out the second minor, as well as two firefighters who had hiked up the cliff. The second minor also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The two minors were hiking with a larger party of children and adults from a local camp group.
