INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at approximately 8:00 pm, North District Officers were flagged down in the 3800 block of N. Keystone Avenue by a witness who said that the Dollar General was being robbed. Officers got out of their cars and approached the business on foot. As the officers were walking up to the store, an unidentified male appeared from the business holding something with both hands. The male walked across the parking lot and started running. Officers gave immediate chase, suspecting that the male was the robbery suspect.

The suspect was seen running and dropping money as he continued to run from officers. The officers continued to chase the suspect and saw the suspect dive into the back door of a residence in the 3600 block of Hillside Avenue. The officers could see the damage to the door. One of the officers went to the front of the house and successfully apprehended the suspect in the driveway, without further incident. In one of his hands, the suspect had money wadded-up that was stolen from the business.

Robbery detectives interviewed the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Johnson of Indianapolis, and he confessed to six other robbers in Indianapolis and one in Lawrence. In all the robberies, the suspect is alleged to have used a knife. In one of the robberies the suspect is alleged to have fought with a witness who was slightly injured (Shell Oil). The suspect was formally charged with eight counts of felony Robbery. Each of the robberies is listed below. Please contact the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for the Probable Cause Affidavit.
