Pair charged with stealing purse and using debit card to purchase $2,200 worth of goods
Detective Billie Brown of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 33-year-old Jennifer Lee Hollifield, of Blue Granite Drive in Nebo, and 35-year-old Joseph James Taylor, of Boyd Road in Nebo, each with four felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, one felony count of breaking and entering and one felony count of larceny.
On June 30, Gracie Ferguson, of Old Highway 10 East in Marion, reported that someone entered her residence and stole her purse, which contained money, debit and credit cards and a pistol and holster.
Brown said an investigation led to Hollifield and Taylor, who allegedly used the debit card on four occasions at Walmart, Ingles, Verizon Wireless and Sunoco to purchase approximately $2,200 worth of merchandise.
The pistol, a Phoenix Arms .22-caliber semi-automatic, valued at $200, has not been recovered.
