State Police Employee Retires after 27 Years with the Department

Peru – Every great organization has valuable people who work behind the scenes to make everyday operations run smoothly. For the Indiana State Police those valuable individuals are the civilian employees who do everything from answering the telephone to analyzing D.N.A. Today, one of those valuable employees is entering a new phase of her life. Indiana State Police Secretary Cathy Shuler is retiring after more than 27 years of service to the Department and the citizens of Indiana.

She started her state police career by serving nine years as an investigative clerk at the Indiana State Police Peru Post. She then transitioned to her current position of investigative secretary, also at the Peru Post. She served in that capacity for the next 18 years. Shuler was responsible for information and documents associated with state police detectives working from the Criminal Investigations Division. She also assisted troopers with probable cause affidavits and case reports.

At an open house held in her honor, Shuler said she applied for the Indiana State Police after her job at a local factory was outsourced to Mexico. She said she needed a job but found a 27 year career. She estimated she has worked with hundreds of troopers and will miss working at the family friendly Peru Post.

State police detectives presented Shuler with a water fountain and other items. The retirement gifts were a token of their gratitude for Shuler making their jobs easier over the last 27 years. She was also given a retirement plaque, honoring her 27 years of service, by Indiana State Police Peru Post Commander Lt. Jeremy Kelly.

“Cathy represents the best the state police has to offer,” stated, Lt. Jeremy Kelly, commander for the Indiana State Police Peru Post. “Her work ethic and professionalism will be hard to replace.”

Shuler resides in Miami County with her husband Mike. She plans to spend retirement spoiling her grandson.
