Sheriff's Deputies went door to door today in Descanso to inform the community about a registered sex offender now living in their neighborhood.
David Mark Chambless now lives at 9668 Garwood Road, Descanso. This address falls within the jurisdiction of the Pine Valley Sheriff's Substation. The Sheriff's Department and the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force are not responsible for the selection of Chambless' residence.
40 homes around Chambless' address were notified today. No one was home in 33 other houses that were visited. Deputies with the Rural Division and members of the SAFE Task Force will conduct follow up visits with these addresses, as well as the principal of Descanso Elementary School.
Chambless served more than 16 years in prison for molesting five girls between the ages of seven and 17 years old beginning in 1987.
California Penal Code Section 290, also known as “Megan’s Law,” permits law enforcement agencies to warn the community about sex offenders who frequent the area. The purpose of this notice is to allow members of the public to protect themselves and/or their children from sex offenders.
This notification is not intended to induce fear; rather it is our belief that an informed community is a safe community. Use of this information to threaten, intimidate, or harass the subject or any other person will not be tolerated and may result in prosecution.
