Detective Curtis Stuteville of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dennis Keith Yelton, 33, of Jenny Lind Drive in Marion, with felony possession of a firearm by a felon.
On Friday, July 18, deputies responded to Jenny Lind Drive in reference to a man with an outstanding warrant who was also armed.
The man, later identified as Yelton, ran toward Stacy Hill Road, so Stuteville and Detective Paul Alkire went to an abandoned house on Stacy Hill and located Yelton. The suspect, who is a convicted felon, allegedly had possession of a handgun in his backpack.
Yelton was also served with a warrant for misdemeanor assault on a female.
