The Lafayette Police Department is taking applications for the Citizen’s Police Academy
The Lafayette Police Department is taking applications for the Citizen’s Police Academy which will start Wednesday August 20th. The class will meet on Wednesdays for three hours for 10 weeks ending on October 22nd.
NOTE: Everyone participating in the Citizen’s Academy will need to come to LPD to be fingerprinted prior to Wednesday Aug 20th. Fingerprints can be taken between 7am and 4pm Monday through Friday and we will hold one evening session on Tuesday August 19th from 5pm to 8pm for fingerprinting. This is due to new State and Federal guidelines.
The Lafayette Police Department's Citizen's Academy is an educational outreach program designed to provide citizens a greater understanding of the inner-workings of their police department and of the role that law enforcement plays within the criminal justice system.
The Citizen's Academy meets one evening per week for 10-weeks, from 6:00pm- 9:00 PM. These classroom sessions are held at the Lafayette Police Department's Training Center, located at 1301 South Street. In addition to the classroom sessions, participants are encouraged to participate in "ride-alongs" with our patrol officers, allowing for a real-life perspective on contemporary policing.
