COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE JAIL PRACTICES
Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Dana Beernink Simonds denied a Writ of Habeas Corpus filed on the behalf of Sonoma County Inmate Charr Treadway.
The Writ alleged that the Sheriff’s policy of not housing female inmates at the North County Detention Facility violated equal protection laws. Treadway was also seeking $5,000 per day retroactive to the first day of her four-year sentence for a felony drug-related conviction.
The Court’s finding stated that the conditions of confinement at the Main Adult Detention Facility and the North County Detention Facility are similar for the purposes of equal protection. The Court heard testimony from Charr Treadway, Sheriff’s Administrators, and an expert in the field of Corrections as well as toured both facilities and reviewed all pertinent policies, procedures and laws.
Assistant Sheriff Randall Walker, who oversees the Detention Division, said the Sheriff’s Office is proud of the services and programs it provides to all inmates and believes it showed throughout this court process.
