APD investigating Sunday afternoon theft that turned into Aggravated Assault incident.

On Sunday July 20th at approximately 2:00pm, officers were sent to the Wal-Mart at 3700 I-40 East on a shoplifter that was in custody by loss prevention officers. While officers were responding, additional information was that the suspect had just left the scene and was armed with a pistol. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the employees who stated they observed a B/M pick up several items and place them into a bag. The suspect then continued to the electronic department where he was checking out. He did not disclose the items he had concealed in the shopping bag and only paid a few other items. At that point the loss prevention personnel approached the suspect and asked the individual to come to office and speak with them. Once in the loss prevention office, the male subject started arguing and became more and more aggressive towards employees. Eventually the male subject stood up and pulled a small pistol out of his pocket and told the employees to get out of his way or he would shoot them. The male suspect then took off running out of the office and left the store. The male was last seen driving a light colored Cadillac. No one was injured in the incident.

Further information has lead APD Detectives to the identity of the suspect. At this time a warrant has not been issued, but is expected soon.
