APD arrest Amarillo man for attempting to take officers weapon during an arrest on Sunday night.

On Sunday July 20th, at 11:49pm, an APD officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation near Amarillo Blvd West and Jefferson. The driver of the vehicle was driving recklessly and committed other traffic violations. The officer initiated a traffic stop and engaged his emergency equipment (Lights). The driver refused to stop and began to evade the officer. As the officer continued chasing the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle jumped out and began to run away on foot. The officer exited his patrol car and chased after the suspect. The officer caught up with the suspect in a open field a short time later and attempted to place handcuffs on the individual. The suspect continued to fight and resist with the officer. During the struggle the suspect attempted to take the officers duty weapon out of his holster. The officer was able to keep him from taking his duty weapon and the struggle continued until additional officers arrived to help take the suspect into custody. The male subject was later identified as Tyson Jamal Jackson B/M 24. Jackson was booked into Potter County Correction Center on charges of Evading Arrest/Detention with a Motor Vehicle, Attempting to take a Weapon form an Officer, resisting Arrest/Search or Transport, a outstanding Parole warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance, and 6 local municipal warrants.
