Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his deputies handled a complaint regarding an assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit murder on July 20th, 2014 at 1204 am. in Penn Township, Cass County MI.

Deputies were dispatched to the 60000 block of Main Street in Vandalia after a 911 call was received indicating a person had been stabbed. Contact was made with the victim who is identified as 46 year old Mark Perkins of Dowagiac. The victim reported that he got into a verbal altercation which ended with the suspect pulling out a knife and stabbing him two times. Mr. Perkins was transported to Borgess Lee Memorial for treatment of his injuries where he was subsequently released. The suspect was later apprehended and charged. His name is being withheld at this time pending arraignment.
