Impact on Grant County due to Saddle Mountain Fire
Impact on Grant County due to Saddle Mountain Fire – 9:00 a.m. Sat 7/19/2014
BRIEF – Fire resources in Grant County near the community of Beverly spent the night set up ready to extinguish a fire on an abandoned railroad trestle which crosses the Columbia River and connects Grant and Kittitas counties.
The Saddle Mountain Fire had burned to the Kittitas shoreline and ignited the trestle. The wind kept the trestle fire from burning across the river. However, a shift in the wind may force the fire to cross the trestle. If that is the case, Grant County Fire District 10 and the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife firefighters are set up on the Grant County side to extinguish the fire.
A Level 1 evacuation warning is still in place for the communities of Shawanna, Beverly and the Grant PUD’s Wanapum Village.
State Route 243 (which runs through the area on the Grant County side of the river) was closed by the WSP last night and is now open.
