Unidentified White Male Pedestrian Hit and Killed on I-80

Gary, Lake County-A unidentified white male pedestrian was hit and killed on I-80 east bound at the 6.8 mile marker (this is just east of the Clark Street overpass), late Friday evening.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Eric Kocinski revealed that at approximately 11:28 p.m., this Friday, July 18th, 2014, evening a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a forty-eight year old woman from Northville, Michigan was east bound on I-80 in the left middle lane when a passenger in her car yelled that there was someone walking out into their lane in front of their vehicle. She braked but could not avoid striking the person. She immediately pulled her vehicle over to the outer shoulder and the pedestrian landed in the left lane where he was ran over by multiple unknown vehicles.

It appears the pedestrian was walking across east bound lanes going from the north to the south before he was hit.

It is unknown who the pedestrian is at this time.

All lanes of east bound traffic were closed and traffic was diverted off at Burr Street until 3:18 a.m. when all lanes were reopened. Lanes were closed for reconstruction and investigation of the crash, removal of the deceased, and clean-up of the roadway.
