#LASD, Sheriff Department investigation into the allegation of the use of force at Enterprise Park in Compton

On Monday, July 14, 2014, at approximately 9:24 p.m. Compton Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a routine patrol check in Enterprise Park located on the 13000 block of Clovis Avenue, unincorporated Los Angeles. Deputies observed a man sitting on a bench and smelled what they identified to be the odor of marijuana in the immediate area. They contacted 29-year-old Barry John Montgomery, to conduct an investigation pursuant to the odor of marijuana. Suspect Montgomery was detained and a warrant check was initiated. The suspect became verbally confrontational and subsequently attempted to punch one of the deputies. The deputies then struggled with the suspect and took him into custody.

During the course of the struggle, the suspect sustained several injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released for booking.

One deputy was injured in the incident and received medical treatment.

Suspect Montgomery was booked at Compton Station on the felony charge of Obstructing/Resisting an Executive Officer and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana. He was released on a bond on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10:20 p.m. and has a future court date on July 23, at Compton Superior Court.

Due to the level of injuries sustained by the suspect the Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau was notified and assumed the investigation. Today, July 18, 2014, the Department was made aware of additional allegations relating to the incident at Enterprise Park wherein a possible shooting occurred and additional deputies were involved in the confrontation with Suspect Montgomery. Detectives are requesting anyone who has information about the incident to call Compton Sheriff’s Station at (310) 605-6500. If you wish to remain Anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org
