Police Charge Man with Attempted Murder in Tracewood Cove Shooting

Jackson police have charged a man in a Thursday afternoon shooting on Tracewood Cove.

Carlnelius Williams, 18, of Jackson, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is in custody at the Madison County Jail.

Williams will have a bond set on Saturday and will be formally arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday in Jackson City Court.

Around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, officers were called about a shooting on Tracewood Cv. A 20-year-old Jackson man was transported by private car to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with gunshot wounds.

While searching the area, police discovered a second gunshot victim in an apartment in the 800 block of Old Hickory Boulevard. Officers called for an ambulance, and paramedics transported Carlnelius Williams to Jackson General Hospital for gunshot wounds. Williams told police that he was from Bolivar, but investigators determined that he lives in Jackson.

The investigation revealed that the 20-year-old man and Williams got into an argument on Tracewood Cv. Williams then pulled a handgun and shot at the victim as the victim backed away. The victim fell to the ground, and Williams stood over him and shot the victim multiple times. A third, unknown person then shot Williams.

When police attempted to question Williams about the shooting, he became uncooperative. Williams was admitted into the hospital for his injuries and guarded by officers until his release this morning to police custody. He was then transported to the Madison County Jail.

As of today, the 20-year-old man remains in the hospital in stable condition.

The shooting remains under investigation and investigators are still attempting to identify who shot Williams.
