Amboy Woman Severely Injured in Scooter Crash

Rural Peru – This morning at approximately 11:10 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash near 2971 East Francis Slocum Trail, in which an Amboy, IN, woman was severely injured.

Preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Mike Lorona revealed that Dora Myers, 61, Amboy, IN, was driving a Verona scooter northbound on Francis Slocum Trail, near an address at 2971 East. For an undetermined reason, Myers laid the scooter down (crashed), causing her to be ejected off the scooter. The scooter and Myers came to rest in the roadway.

Myers was transported by ambulance to Duke’s Memorial Hospital with a severe head injury. She was later flown by medical helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Myers was not wearing a helmet which Trooper Lorona believes would have reduced the severity of her injuries.

This crash is still under investigation. At this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
