LCSO arrested 46 yo Tony Scott Cooper Sr. of 1295 Smyrna Road, Elgin SC he is facing numerous charges

In the early morning hours of July 17th, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrested forty-six-year-old Tony Scott Cooper Sr. of 1295 Smyrna Road, Elgin SC after a burglary in progress had been reported. Deputies arrived and Cooper ran from the scene on Bramlett Church Road. During this time deputies discovered that another residence had been burglarized and items had been taken from inside. A short time later the LCSO was
contacted by a homeowner who stated Cooper was attempting to take his car. Cooper abandoned this vehicle and was spotted on foot by a citizen who called 911 and deputies by this time set up a perimeter around the area and found a vehicle in a ditch and contacted the owner who stated they didn’t know the vehicle was stolen. Deputies contacted Laurens County Communications and deployed a reverse 911 call to residents in the area to warn them of the situation, take precautions, and be vigilant of their surroundings. Utilizing the SLED Bloodhound Tracking Team and helicopter deputies tracked Cooper on foot, and another citizen called 911 to report that Cooper was breaking into their vehicle. Being in a close proximity to this location deputies were able to gain sight of the fleeing Cooper who was apprehended after resisting arrest with a weapon.

Cooper’s charges are as follows: five counts of Breaking Into a Motor Vehicle, one count of Petit Larceny, three counts of Malicious Damage, three counts of Grand Larceny, two counts of Burglary First Degree, and one count of Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon.
