UPDATE: Inmate Escapee Back in Custody

(HOUSTON, TX)- The inmate who briefly escaped custody from the 1200 Baker St. jail earlier this morning is back in custody. He was apprehended by patrol deputies at around 5 a.m. near Lee and Staples St. near downtown Houston.

Lockdown on all three detention facilities has been lifted and all other inmates have been accounted for.

At around 4:30 a.m. a deputy transporting inmates from the 1200 Baker St. jail noticed inmate Jamon Walker was in an unauthorized area and asked him to stop. Walker refused the order and ran past the deputy, making it to the outside of the building.

A search perimeter was immediately set up.

Shortly thereafter Walker was spotted on foot. At approximately 5 a.m. he was apprehended near Lee and Staples St. by a patrol deputy after leading him on a brief foot chase.

Walker has been in the Harris County Jail since July 2013 on a capital murder charge out of the City of Houston. He now faces felony escape charges.

The mission of the Harris County Sheriff's Office is to enhance the safety and protect the trust of the citizens of Harris County by enforcing the law with integrity and professionalism.

An internal investigation has been launched to determine how inmate Walker managed to escape. His photo is attached.
