Advisory

Arrest in two robberies made, possible link to opiate usage.

The Green Bay Police Department has made an arrest in two recent business robberies. On May 25, 2014, at around 8:22 p.m. a male entered the Subway Store at 825 South Huron Rd. wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask and robbed the clerk working at the time. The suspect ran from the area but was captured on video running north from the store. Green Bay Police Officers who responded to the incident followed the trail that the suspect had fled and recovered the ski mask that he wore during the robbery.
On June 7th, 2014, at around 8:47 p.m. a male entered the Subway Store at 1180 E. Mason Street and robbed it in a similar manner. Detectives investigating these cases identified a person of interest for these two robberies and interviewed him. The subject denied being involved in the robberies and a DNA sample was obtained from him to compare to the ski mask recovered at the first robbery. We received confirmation from the crime lab recently that the subjects DNA matched that on the ski mask recovered at the first robbery.
The subject is Alexander William Sundling, a 20 year old from Green Bay. He has been arrested and is in jail and charged with Armed Robbery by threat of force for these two robberies.
Information learned during the investigation, and confirmed during an interview of Mr. Sundling, is that these crimes were fueled by an opiate addiction. Law enforcement have always known that to a large extent, drugs drive crime, and clearly opiate addiction and heroin use are quickly becoming the fuel that is driving many of our recent crimes.
There are many community partners coming together to present a free to the public summit on substance abuse, including opiate addiction, and provide information on how we can respond as a community to address this problem. The event is in the planning stages and is titled, “It Doesn’t Start With Heroin” and is set for September 24th, 5:30 p.m, in the Legends Room at Lambeau Field. More information will be provided in the coming months.
