Two pronounced dead at scene of accident involving stolen pickup...

On July 16, 2014 at approximately 8:44 PM, an officer was flagged down by a complainant that had seen his stolen Dodge Dually truck near Amarillo Blvd. and N. Bonham.  Moments later, the officer located the vehicle along West Amarillo Blvd.  When he attempted to pull the Dodge over, it fled from him.  He began to pursue the vehicle.  Due to the driver’s speed and reckless driving, the officer terminated the pursuit and stopped in the 700 block of N. Van Buren.  The officer was attempting to see if the vehicle would turn off of Van Buren when the pickup’s tail lights disappeared.   The officer then drove south on Van Buren and found that the vehicle crashed in the 100 block of N Van Buren.  The Dodge Dually collided with two empty semi-trailers that were parked there.  The driver, Nick Gonzalez, WM 42 and his passenger, Joachim Adam Gonzalez WM 31, both died at the scene as a result of injuries received in the crash.  Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez has ordered an autopsy for both individuals.  It is unknown if alcohol/drugs are factors.  Speed is a factor.  The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
