ISP Supt Doug Carter, 2014 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference Chair, Participating in Daily Operations
Bloomington - Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter continued his duties Wednesday as the Chair of the 2014 National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference. Superintendent Carter visited with many Explorers, offering them instruction and encouragement along the way.
More than 2,000 young men and women from around the country, ages 14 – 20, are on the campus of Indiana University this week taking part in the bi-annual Conference. They are competing with other teams and acquiring important skills and techniques from some of the highest-ranking law enforcement professionals in the nation.
Superintendent Carter stated "It is a delight to work with so many potential future law enforcement officers. A conference like this doesn’t just happen. It takes a lot of advance planning, the support of dozens of Law Enforcement agencies and a team of dedicated volunteers who believe in what we’re doing. Everyone involved in this conference is doing a fantastic job".
Superintendent Carter served eighteen years with the Indiana State Police from November 1984 until December 2002 when he was elected Sheriff of Hamilton County. While in office, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department earned national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation in Law Enforcement (CALEA), being only one of two accredited sheriff’s departments in the state.
Appointed by Governor Mike Pence, Superintendent Carter became Indiana’s twentieth Superintendent of the State Police in January of 2013.
The National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference runs through tomorrow evening with an Awards Ceremony serving as its finale.
