Summer Programs Celebrate Phoenix

This summer, our partners at Area Relief Ministries (ARM) and a group of dedicated volunteers presented the Phoenix Curriculum to over 175 children in summer programs across the City at summer camps. The programs were presented by: ARM at their HUB Club in Hillcrest Circle, Keep My Hood Good at Forrest Height United Methodist Church, Regional Interfaith Association (RIFA) at their Club 412, Life Mentoring and Tutoring at Westwood Gardens summer camp and in Lincoln Courts and Allenton Heights by the Boys & Girls Club.

This Saturday, the children who participated in the program will be honored at Conger Park. We will start about 3:00 with an afternoon of music, fun and presentation to our “graduates”. We would like to invite our city and community leaders to join us in this time of recognition to honor and encourage these children.

The Jackson Police Department is privileged to be partnered with these outstanding organizations and the people associated with each as we work together to build “A Resilient Community”.

The Phoenix Curriculum presented in the summer programs was a only a small part of the semester long curriculum being presented by ARM in conjunction with Jackson – Madison County Schools that will start again in the fall. The program guides students in identifying and recognizing high risk people, places, things, and situations, and teaches them impulse control and coping options to help them avoid, escape and refuse to be involved in violence, gangs, bullying and drugs.
