7/14/14, Press Release: Family Disturbance UPDATE
On 07.14.14. at 2245 hrs Burlington Police and Rescue responded to Loaldo Drive in Burlington for a report of a person who had suffered a gunshot wound. Upon arriving, Matthew Carr of Burlington was found to have sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. Preliminary investigation found that at the time of the injury, Matthew was engaged in a struggle for the firearm with his father, Thomas Carr of Burlington. Matthew was transported by ambulance to the Fletcher Allen Hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his injury and is expected to recover.
Investigation is ongoing at this time regarding the nature of the struggle and the intent of the involved parties. There is no public safety concern at this time. Persons who may have heard or seen the events leading up to the injury are asked to call the Burlington Police. Detective Michael Hemond can be reached at 540-2229.
7/16/14 UPDATE:
Police Detectives have cited Matthew Carr, a 50 year old Burlington man into court to face charges of first Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and Reckless Endangerment. Carr was involved in a disturbance late Monday night with the victim. During the disturbance Carr armed himself with a loaded handgun and threatened the victim. The disturbance became physical as the victim attempted to disarm Carr. Carr ended up pushing the victim through a glass door and then turned the firearm at himself and fired it once. Carr is currently still being treated at Fletcher Allen hospital for the self-inflicted injury he received. Carr is scheduled to appear at arraignment on Tuesday July 22, 2014. There are no photographs available of Carr at this time.
