Indy Man Injured in Miami County Crash

Peru – This afternoon at approximately 12:56 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Miami County Road 100 North, which injured an Indianapolis man.

Preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Sergeant Rick Brown revealed that a 2004 Dodge 3500 van, driven by Anthony Swindle, 31, Mooresville, IN, was stopped for a red traffic light on southbound U.S. 31 at County Road 100 North. Behind the van, a 2006 Mack dump truck, driven by Jason Grigsby, 37, Medaryville, IN, was also stopped for the traffic light. When the traffic light turned green, both vehicles accelerated. The dump truck accelerated at a faster pace and rear ended the van.

A passenger in the van, Claude Robinson, 55, Indianapolis, IN, was transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital. He suffered a non-life threatening leg injury. Grigsby and Swindle were not injured.

All participants in the crash were wearing a seat belt which Sergeant Brown believes helped prevent more serious injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Grigsby was issued a traffic citation for following another vehicle too closely.
