Grand Terrace - Sheriff's Dept Air Rescue 6 crew respond to Blue Mountain/Honey Hills and perform a hoist rescue of an injured hiker

DATE/TIME: July 13, 2014/8:00 am

INCIDENT: Hoist Rescue

LOCATION: Blue Mountain, Honey Hills, Grand Terrace

VICTIM: Mary Rey, age 45

SUMMARY: On Sunday, July 13, 2014, the Sheriff's Department Air Rescue 6 responded to the area of Blue Mountain/Honey Hills in Grand Terrace.
A hiker, identified as Mary Rey, was hiking on Blue Mountain and fell while walking on steep terrain. Rey requested assistance as she had seriously injured her ankle and was unable to walk. Fire department personnel responded and determined that because of her location, she would need to be rescued by rope. However, there was concern that she may sustain further injury during the rope rescue.
Sheriff's Department Air Rescue 6 was requested and responded to her location. Upon arrival, the flight crew determined that a hoist rescue was the best method to rescue the injured hiker. The hoist rescue was performed and Rey was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. Rey had suffered a fractured ankle as a result of her fall.
