SBPD Investigating Two Gang Related Stabbings

The Santa Barbara Police Department is currently investigating two gang related stabbings that were reported on the night of July 10, 2014. Both victims are affiliated with a Santa Barbara area gang and were uncooperative with police. Both are expected to survive.

On July 10, 2014 at 10:49 p.m., SBPD officers responded to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room on a report that a stabbing victim had walked in for treatment. Upon arrival they contacted a 31-year old man suffering from multiple stab wounds to his torso and an extremity. Later, at 11:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 500 block of E. Ortega Street on a call of an assault with a deadly weapon that had just occurred. There, a 26-year old man approached the reporting party, advised her that he had been stabbed, and requested assistance in seeking medical attention. This victim was transported by paramedics to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room for treatment; upon examination he was found to have multiple stab wounds to his torso.

Investigators have not determined if these stabbings are connected and crime scenes have not been located. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact SBPD Sergeant Lorenzo Duarte at (805) 897-2339 / [email protected], or call anonymously to (805) 897-2386.
