Advisory

The CLPD strongly urges you to secure your vehicle at all times. Please remember that car burglaries can be prevented!!

Car burglaries are a crime of opportunity and can be prevented. Please do not leave any personal or valuable items in your vehicle, and always lock your vehicle. Targeted items include:

global positioning units (GPS)
satellite radios
stereo face plates
cell-phones
laptop computers
I-pods / MP3 players
wallets and purses & contents / boxes / gifts / packages
coats / jackets
cash (bills or coins - any amount)

Leaving electronic accessories and items of value in view can also cause a vehicle to be burglarized. Accessory items include: power cords, mounting brackets, or similar items that indicate small electronics may be in the vehicle. Any indication that electronics exist can be an invitation for a car burglar.

The Police Department has taken burglary to motor vehicle reports where the offenders removed social security cards, check books, credit cards, and other confidential pieces of information from the glove compartments of the victim’s vehicles. These types of documents should never be stored inside a vehicle.

A car burglary takes only a few seconds and can be very costly to the owner. Dial 911 to report any suspicious people, vehicles, or activity. Call the Crystal Lake Police Department with any questions at 815-356-3620.

Please remember that car burglaries can be prevented!!
