Two Injured After Morning Crash

Sullivan County—This morning at 8:45, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a one-vehicle crash on State Road 54 just east of County Road 375 East and near the town of Dugger. The crash seriously injured the driver and his wife.

Preliminary investigation revealed a red 1998 Mercury Sable, driven by 78-year-old Hughie Fink of Linton, Indiana, was westbound on SR 54 near CR 375E, when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway on the north side. The vehicle then struck a culvert, traveled end over end, and came to rest on its top in a ditch. The victims were extricated from the vehicle by members of the Sullivan and Carlisle Fire Departments.

Hughie Fink was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for leg and internal injuries. His wife, 67-year-old Eithel Fink, was taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital for leg and internal injuries.

The crash was investigated by Senior Trooper Tom Hanks. Assisting were Indiana Conservation Officers, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan City Fire and Police Departments, Sullivan County EMS, and Carlisle Fire/Rescue.

No citations issued and drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
