Friday night at approximately 5 o'clock an Ada Wal-Mart employee called police reporting a shoplifter was stealing beer. An off-duty Ada officer heard the police dispatcher report the crime over the police radio. That officer was already at the Wal-Mart and waited for the suspect to leave the store. The suspect ran outside, jumped inside a waiting pickup truck, and attempted to flee - almost striking the officer. The officer fired her handgun at the truck as did an off-duty Roff reserve officer. No one injured by gun fire. A short pursuit with the truck ensued until one of the truck's tires went flat from being struck by a bullet. The suspect ran from the vehicle but was quickly apprehended by the officer. Cordell Tebet, 26, was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and felony eluding. The Ada Police Department requested OSBI investigate the officer-involved shooting even though no one was struck by a projectile. Agents will complete a detailed report and deliver it to the district attorney.
