Distracted Driver Collides Head-on into Tree, Unrestrained Passenger Injured
Knox County – Friday morning, July 11, at approximately 11:18, Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on SR 59 just north of SR 67 that injured a Dugger woman.
According to Master Trooper Gavin Wilson, Thomas Cody, Jr, 31, of Dugger, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet passenger car southbound on SR 59 near SR 67 when his vehicle left the roadway on the east side striking a culvert and then a large tree head-on. Further investigation revealed Cody was distracted when he looked down at his radio. Cody was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. His passenger, Amanda Salesman, 30, of Dugger, was not wearing a seat belt and received injuries to her head and chest. “The use of a seat belt would have reduced or prevented Salesman’s injuries,” said Wilson. Salesman was taken to Greene County Hospital where she is currently being treated for her injuries. The vehicle was totaled.
