West San Gabriel Valley Anti-Crime Task Force recovers stolen handgun from residential burglary

On Thursday July 3, 2014 Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Crescenta Valley Station responded to a daytime residential burglary. They successfully apprehended the suspects after a brief foot pursuit. Two of the suspects are juveniles and one is an adult. The male juvenile suspect was found in possession of a backpack containing obvious stolen items. The LASD Crescenta Valley Station Detectives discovered the backpack contained stolen items from another daytime residential burglary that occurred in East Pasadena on Wednesday July 2, 2014 and they contacted the West San Gabriel Valley Anti-Crime Task Force (WSGV-ACTF).
The task force is comprised of detectives from Arcadia, Pasadena, South Pasadena, Monrovia, El Monte, Monterey Park, and Los Angeles County Probation. Their focus includes burglary/robbery suppression and investigation, parole and probation compliance, and career criminal fugitive apprehension.
Members from the Task Force responded and discovered that a handgun and holster were stolen from the burglary in Pasadena. Additionally, it was discovered that computer electronics and jewelry were also stolen. Through investigative leads, the Task Force Detectives determined that a gang associate in Pasadena was in possession of the stolen handgun and electronics.
On Tuesday and Wednesday (July 8 & 9th, 2014), the Task Force detectives served a three location search warrant during which they recovered the stolen handgun. The suspect, twenty one year old Jason William Zarate, was arrested and booked at the Pasadena Jail for possessing the stolen handgun. It was also discovered that he purchased numerous boxes of ammunition for the stolen handgun. Zarate is a known associate of a local criminal street gang in the City of Pasadena.
The Task Force subsequently recovered a possible stolen laptop computer from another location during the search warrant service. This particular computer was possibly stolen during a third burglary that also occurred in the Crescenta Valley area. The two juvenile suspects remain in custody and Zarate has been released on a citation from the Pasadena Jail.
If any further inquiries or information is needed, please contact the Task Force’s Administrative Lieutenant, Colleen Flores, at the Arcadia Police Department.
