Collision With INDOT Vehicle Injures Columbia City Man

(Columbia City, IN)-The Indiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash that occurred this morning on State Road 109 near Center Drive that resulted in the injury to a Columbia City man after his car collided with an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) dump truck.

According to Master Trooper Joel Lemmon, at approximately 8:00 a.m. a 2013 Freightliner dump truck driven by 28 year old Brian C. Elliott of Goshen was traveling southbound on SR 109 approaching the Eagle Quest Church. Elliott allegedly turned the dump truck into the path of a northbound 1991 Oldsmobile 4-door driven by 43 year old John B. Barry of Columbia City. Barry was not able to avoid the impending collision.

As a result of the crash, Barry received severe injuries to one of his arms and was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center via Samaritan while Elliott was not injured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts which is believed to have reduced the severtiy of Barry's injuries, whose condition is not known at this time. Elliott was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

Agencies assisting were the Whitley County Sheriff Department, Thorncreek Township Fire Department, Columbia City Fire Department, Samaritan, and All Pro Towing.
