Semi Overturns and Closes Ramp
Cambridge City – This morning around 10:20 a.m. a semi that was exiting from I-70 east bound onto SR1 ran off the traveled portion of the ramp and overturned on a small embankment just off the north side of the ramp.
Around 10:20 a.m. a 1999 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer, driven by Oscar Lopez-Diaz, age 31 of Berwyn, IL., was exiting off of I-70 east bound, when, for an unknown reason, it drove off the north shoulder of the ramp onto a soft earthen embankment where it overturned.
Neither Oscar Lopez- Diaz, nor his co-driver, Jose Lopez-Diaz of Mexico, was injured. The ramp will be closed for an undetermined amount of time while crews work to upright the semi. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) Trooper Eric Thumb investigated the crash, and was assisted by CVED Trooper Brandon Steffee and Troopers Eric Fields and Paul Harrison.
INDOT was also called to the scene to assist with the closing of the ramp. The crash remains under investigation. For safe family travel tips, please visit the web site at http://www.in.gov/isp/2968.htm
