Lake Station Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Hammond, Lake County-Late yesterday evening, a Lake Station man died from injuries he received when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.

Yesterday, Tuesday, July 8th, 2014, at approximately 9:52 p.m., preliminary investigation by Trooper John Holmen showed that a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Edward S. Reifsteck III, 23 of Lake Station, was on the ramp from northbound Kennedy Avenue to eastbound I-80 when he entered the curve of the entrance ramp at an excessive speed, lost control of the Suzuki, and was thrown from the motorcycle coming to rest in the eastbound lane of I-80.

Both east and west bound lanes were closed for the landing of the air ambulance but due to the Reifsteckā€™s injuries he was transported to Community Hospital in Munster by Hammond EMS. Reifsteck was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital of blunt force trauma. He was wearing a helmet.

Alcohol maybe a factor; toxicology results are pending.

Family has been notified.

Assisting: Trooper Brandon Henderson reconstruction, Hammond Fire and EMS
